Ristiina - The Gateway to the Lake Saimaa
The sights that attracted Ristiina’s founder Count Per Brahe in the 17th century still fascinate the visitors of today. In any season you can enjoy the beautiful sights, move along the great waters of the Lake Saimaa and visit the numerous cultural and historical sights. Moreover, the largest rock paintings of the Nordic countries are hidden by the nearly untouched and beautiful lake nature of Saimaa, in Astuvansalmi. An immense cliff perpetuates rock paintings created 6000 years ago. |

With its labyrinthine wilderness routes on the waters of Somee and Yövesi, its great cliffs and sandy beaches, lake-Finland unfolds to the traveller in all its glory. Ristiina’s nature offers not only rest for the soul, but also possibilities for camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing and the chance for spotting endangered animals such as the ringed seal of Saimaa.
The present lively and active life is represented by the municipality’s numerable services as well as by different kinds of events. The best way to get to know the area’s culture and meet the local people is by participating in events. For example, how about participating in the Ford fishing competition in March, visit Ristiina Market Day in July or exploring the neighbouring municipalities’ events.
Warmly welcome to Ristiina! |
